The Appalachian Wesley Foundation offers various leadership opportunities for students to serve and grow within the community.
Below are detailed descriptions of the leadership team areas:
1. Student Servant Leadership (Co-Presidents)
Serving as the primary student representatives, the co-presidents are integral to both the university and the Appalachian Wesley Foundation. Their responsibilities include:
• University Liaison: Ensuring the ministry's recognition with the Club Council by adhering to its constitution.
• Board Participation: Serving as members of the Appalachian Wesley Foundation Board of Directors, with one co-president acting as the co-board chair to lead and direct board meetings.
• Team Coordination: Meeting weekly with the campus pastor to guide and support the various ministry teams.
• Leadership Oversight: Leading student leadership meetings and guiding the mission and vision of App Wesley.
• Worship Participation: Assisting in leading prayer, making announcements, and participating in other aspects of worship services.
• Campus Engagement: Attending App State Campus Activities Club Council meetings and serving as a liaison between students and the campus pastor.
2. Hospitality & Meal Team Lead
This team focuses on creating a welcoming environment for all attendees during Monday and Wednesday gatherings. Responsibilities include:
• Meal Coordination: Scheduling, preparing, and occasionally cooking the weekly Monday Night Meals.
• Event Preparation: Setting up tables and chairs for Monday meals and arranging seating for Wednesday worship.
• Welcoming Duties: Assigning and coordinating greeters, managing name tags, and distributing welcome bags to newcomers.
• Refreshments Management: Organizing Wednesday night snacks and ensuring all hospitality needs are met.
• Cleanup Efforts: Overseeing post-event cleanup and trash disposal.
• Special Events: Forming task forces as needed for special events to enhance the community experience.
3. D-Group Leadership
This team is dedicated to fostering spiritual growth through small group / D-Group communities. D-Groups are small, intentional communities designed to foster deep spiritual growth and accountability among students. Key duties involve:
• Purpose: Providing a space for students to deepen their faith, develop spiritual disciplines, and build authentic, transformational relationships.
• Leader Recruitment: Identifying and recruiting leaders for a variety of D-Groups / small groups, including men's, women's, co-ed, and class year groups.
• Resource Provision: Developing and supplying necessary materials and resources to support D-Group / small group pear leaders.
• Event Planning: Organizing outside events and retreats to strengthen group cohesion and spiritual development.
• Special Initiatives: Creating task forces for special events and groups as needed to address emerging interests and needs.
4. Wednesday Night Tech Team Lead
Focusing on the technical aspects of worship services, this team ensures seamless execution of all technical components. Responsibilities include:
• Technical Planning: Working closely with the campus minister to plan and execute the technical elements of worship services.
• Equipment Management: Overseeing the operation and maintenance of sound boards, computers, lighting systems, and other technical equipment.
• Volunteer Training: Recruiting, training, and scheduling volunteers to operate technical equipment during services and events.
• Artistic Coordination: Collaborating with the Worship Team Lead to integrate artistic expressions such as dance, drama, and multimedia presentations into services.
• Continuous Improvement: Staying updated on the latest technological advancements to enhance the worship experience continually.
5. Student Representative
A versatile and supportive presence within the Appalachian Wesley Foundation community. This role involves assisting with a variety of tasks and initiatives, contributing to the smooth operation of ministry events and fostering an inclusive, welcoming atmosphere for all students. This position is ideal for persons who enjoy working behind the scenes, has a heart for ministry, and wants to be involved in various aspects of the App Wesley community while growing in leadership.
Responsibilities Include:
• General Support: Assisting with events, programs, and ministry activities, ensuring their success and smooth execution.
• Student Engagement: Welcoming new students and helping them integrate into the community by providing information, offering support, and inviting them to participate in activities.
• Collaboration: Working alongside leadership teams to help brainstorm, organize, and implement programs and events, contributing to team efforts across various ministry areas.
• Feedback and Advocacy: Representing the voices of students by gathering feedback and concerns, and sharing those insights with leadership to improve the ministry.
• Communication: Helping with announcements, marketing, and outreach to ensure that students are wellinformed about upcoming events and opportunities.
These leadership roles are vital components of the Appalachian Wesley Foundation, providing students with opportunities to serve, lead, and grow in their faith within a supportive community.
Student Leadership Covenant
As a leader within our faith community, I commit to the following principles, inspired by the teachings of Jesus Christ and the mission of our ministry:
1. Love and Devotion
Great Commandment Focus: I shall love the Lord my God with all my heart, soul, strength, and mind; and love my neighbor as myself.
Matthew 22:37-39 – “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind… Love your neighbor as yourself.”
2. Mission Commitment
Discipleship Mission: I will strive to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world through active participation in campus ministry.
Matthew 28:19-20 – “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.”
3. Personal Holiness and Integrity
Sabbath Observance: I will honor the Sabbath by balancing work and rest, dedicating time for worship and renewal.
Exodus 20:8 – “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.”
Community Respect: I will seek the well-being of our community, respect leadership, and lead with humility and service.
Philippians 2:3-4 – “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves.”
Sobriety and Legal Compliance: I will live a life of sobriety, adhere to laws regarding controlled substances, and make choices that do not cause others to stumble.
Ephesians 5:18 – “Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit.”
1 Corinthians 8:9 – “Be careful, however, that the exercise of your rights does not become a stumbling block to the weak.”
Sexual Integrity: I will honor the gift of sexuality through celibacy in singleness, fidelity in marriage, and uphold sexual integrity in all relationships.
1 Thessalonians 4:3-4 – “It is God’s will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; that each of you should learn to control your own body in a way that is holy and honorable.”
Grace and Forgiveness: I will acknowledge my shortcomings, seek God's forgiveness, and live as a renewed creation in Christ.
1 John 1:9 – “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”
4. Community Engagement and Responsibilities
Active Participation: I will attend and engage in all required meetings, retreats, and events, including:
Weekly Monday meal and gathering.
Weekly small group / D-Group gatherings.
Monthly leadership meetings.
Semester leadership meetings / retreats.
Major community events and outreach programs.
Hebrews 10:25 – “Not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another.”
Punctuality and Presence: I will be punctual and present for all commitments, understanding the importance of my role in the community.

Wednesday Night Worship at App Wesley
At a local church, fostering a connection with the broader faith community.
Psalm 122:1 – “I rejoiced with those who said to me, ‘Let us go to the house of the Lord.’”
5. Stewardship and Service
Financial Support: I will contribute a portion of my resources to support the ministry's mission and operations.
2 Corinthians 9:7 – “Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”
Service Commitment: I will serve on ministry teams, lead initiatives, and support the planning and execution of events and programs, where needed.
Mark 10:45 – “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
6. Personal Growth and Accountability
Spiritual Development: I will engage in regular prayer, Bible study, and participate in discipleship groups to deepen my faith.
Joshua 1:8 – “Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it.”
Accountability: I welcome guidance and correction from peers and mentors, striving to live a life that reflects Christ's teachings.
Proverbs 27:17 – “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.”
7. Representation and Conduct
Upholding Values: I will embody the values of our community in my personal life, including online presence, avoiding actions that could harm others or the ministry's reputation.
Colossians 4:6 – “Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.”
Avoiding Harmful Behaviors: I will refrain from activities such as misuse of substances, dishonesty, gossip, and any form of abuse, recognizing their destructive impact.
Ephesians 4:29 – “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs.”
