In this D-Group, we will take hard to answer questions that deal with some aspect of our Christian faith and begin to "crack the case" through discussion and looking at evidence found in the Bible and elsewhere!
Discussion over these questions will not be about finding an "answer" or changing anyone's mind. The intention is all about diving deep! These are going to be difficult questions that are asked by various people, Christian or not, and often don't have a "solution". The mystery of our faith is a beautiful thing!
This D-group is here for us to converse over topics and questions that we often push aside as followers of Christ, as we begin understanding our faith on a deeper level!
SCRIPTURE
TRADITION
REASON
EXPERIENCE
“Scripture, tradition and reason are not like three different bookshelves, each of which can be ransacked for answers to key questions. Rather, Scripture is the bookshelf; tradition is the memory of what people in the house have read and understood from that shelf; and reason is the set of spectacles that people wear in order to make sense of what they read"
- Bishop N. T. Wright
To discuss a question, you would:
Look at what the Bible says FIRST (scripture)
What the Church has traditionally believed about the question in the past (tradition)
Think about what the Holy Spirit is saying to you personally (experience)
Bring it all together to think critically and arrive at some conclusion; definitive or not (reason)
