Rev. Maurice Ritchie, Campus Minister, 1963-1967
When I arrived at Boone on August 1, 1963, the ministry was lodged in the basement of the Boone (not yet United) Methodist Church. Residential enrollment was around 3,000. Almost ready for occupancy was the building you are now renovating, so my office was first in the basement of the church, now (or at least it was) an art building belonging to the ASU campus. I presided every Sunday for the eleven am service, not just a symbolic act but a visualization of the connection of that church with the campus and students. I was also a sort of unofficial associate pastor, covering for the pastor when he was away. On the first Sunday of Advent (December 1), 1963, we moved into the Wesley building.

A 60 Year Dream and Beyond
We dream of how God will use App Wesley to send out alumni to continue to make disciples of Jesus Christ and transform the world beyond their college experience at App State.
Realizing these dreams will require an ongoing commitment to maintaining and expanding App Wesley’s excellence in serving the students during their college experience. Let us never say that we failed to dream big about what God can do through the mission of App Wesley. Let us never say that we doubted the urgency or the importance of our mission. Let us never say we hesitated to accomplish what God set out before us at this moment. |
We serve a God who provided through the hands of Mr. & Mrs. W.R. Winkler and Mr. & Mrs. G.H. Winkler the resources to donate the current plot of land in 1962 on which the building resides. We serve a God who provided for our current facility to be built. We believe in the God who Paul wrote about in Ephesians 3, who “is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His
power that is at work within us!” We are confident that God can use the resources and generosity of our App Wesley alumni and supporters to make this goal a reality. |
